- The Kundan Technique: The word kundan literally translates to "highly refined gold". Artisans create a framework using lac (a natural resin) and wrap pure, molten gold foil around the stones to permanently hold them in a bed of pure gold.
- The Stones: Authentic Kundan stones are highly polished, faceted gems like rubies, sapphires, emeralds, or high-quality glass.
- Finish: The reverse or inner side of the jewellery typically features intricate, colorful (enamel) work, adding a hidden layer of detail and color.
